It’s a familiar scenario: a woman walks into a beauty parlor with high hopes and exits with regret. We hate to break it to you, but you are probably 50% at fault. The brief was on you, pointing out revisions was on you. Any client who shares these things and still ends up unhappy a) did not try hard enough or b) should switch to a new stylist pronto. Here are a few things you can do to secure your satisfaction:

Communicate with Your Stylist

Stylists are there to listen and help you achieve your best look — don’t hesitate to communicate with them.

You're not picky because you're direct and specific. These are things that are well within your privileges as a client. The first thing you should do upon sitting on that chair is to share the state of your hair clearly with your stylist and what you think should be done about it. After that, ask them what they think. It opens the floor to a productive conversation and collaboration between what you want and what the stylist can do

Bring an Accurate Peg

A peg in photoshoots, fashion shows, and hairstyling is a visual example of how you want the end product to look. Show your hairstylist Pinterest images or magazine clippings every time you get a haircut. Don’t just verbally explain it and hope for the best — make sure they nail it by showing them precisely what you’re going for.

Don’t Buy Anything You Don’t Want to Buy

Your hairstylist or their assistant will always try to upsell a treatment or product. Don’t feel pressured to say yes, even when they’re nice. If you want to reward them for their excellent service, leave a handsome tip. Don’t buy something you don’t need or can’t afford. If you do, you’re bound to leave the beauty parlor resentful and unhappy.

A good alternative to a pricey hair serum is TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum, which gives hair the shine and softness it needs without weighing it down. Apply a few drops on dry hair to get rid of frizz and make it manageable throughout the day.

Ask for What You Want Nicely

If you don’t like the way they’re blow-drying your hair, let them know.

Filipinos like to avoid conflict. We beat around the bush and try not to sound firm when we speak. There’s no place for this at the beauty parlor. Besides, asking for what you want does not court conflict as long as you ask politely. Show your stylist some respect, but don’t go soft on them when they do something wrong. Don’t leave the salon without asking for the adjustments that you want.

Communicating what you want takes practice, especially if you’re not used to it, but even doing it once will make you feel more confident. If a visit to the beauty parlor gives you anxiety, give the tips above a try to increase your chances of walking away very satisfied with your new look.
