You Will Need

As much as you love the bombshell curls, they can look a bit much on more chill days. Enter the “undone” blowout hair – an alternative for those craving a more low-key yet undeniably chic ‘do. This breezy trend, which has become the go-to style for stars like Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie, features barely there waves with volume at the roots. The overall look nails the I-woke-up-like-this vibe to a T. All you need is some extra time to master the technique. Follow these detailed steps.

Step 1: Wash Your Hair

The key to salon-quality blowout hair starts in the shower. Clean strands not only give the most movement but also hold the style longer. If you put styling products on greasy hair, it will fall limp the moment humidity hits. So, resist the temptation to cheat the system with a quick spray of dry shampoo and instead, go for a proper wash. If you don’t have time to wash your hair, your stylist may use a hair spray to add volume to the roots and make the hair more amenable to styling.

Opt for a gentle shampoo that can remove excess oil and impurities without drying your hair out, like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth KERA10 Shampoo. This lower-sulfate shampoo is made with Kera10 Protein Complex that penetrates the hair shaft up to 10 layers deep. It also gives you 10 salon benefits in one wash, including frizz control and heat protection.

Step 2: Continue with a Conditioner

Now that your hair is squeaky clean, you need to add some moisture back by using a conditioner. You can try VitaKeratin Ultra Rich Shine – a deep-conditioning treatment with vitamin B5, keratin, and rose oil. It makes your hair so much easier to style and leaves a healthy sheen, which is one of the hallmarks of the “undone” blowout hairstyle. What’s more, it helps strengthen your strands and reduce breakage.

When applying conditioner, focus on the ends as they tend to be the most fragile. Avoid the roots to maintain the volume and lightness at the crown. Once done, squeeze the water out with a towel.

A coin-sized dollop of conditioner should be enough if you have long hair.

Step 3: Prep for Success

For extra volume, reach for a lightweight mousse or volumizing powder (your choice!) and apply it to the roots. Comb through the hair to distribute the product evenly. Remember, a little goes a long way.

Next, work a texturizing spray through your damp strands. This is a crucial step in doing a blowout, especially if you have fine hair that won’t hold curls. Gently scrunch your locks to add grips and dimension.

Step 4: Blow-Dry and Roll Your Hair

Here comes the climax of your hair transformation. First, twist each section of hair into a rope-like shape and blast it with a blow dryer. Make sure to point the nozzle down to help tame flyaways. After that, use a round brush to smooth out the hair.

For the second part, employ the help of the old-school Velcro rollers. Wrap sections of your hair away from the face and leave them for at least 20 minutes. No hair rollers on hand? Rolling your hair and clipping it with a bobby pin will do.

Step 5: Create Loose Curls

Undo the rollers and wield your trusty curling iron. A medium-sized barrel works best for achieving the “undone” blowout hair, but feel free to use whatever is available. When your wand is nice and hot, wrap sections of hair around it in alternating directions. Leave out the ends to have a more relaxed finish.

You can also curl your roots if you notice they need more oomph. Lift your hair up and place the barrel under it. Move it slightly to disperse the heat. Be careful not to burn your scalp!

Step 6: Brush, Brush, and Brush

What makes the “undone”blowout hairdifferent than other styles is its soft waves that lookfresh and modern. The secret to this effortlessly chic look is a wide-toothed comb. With this handy tool, break up the curls and detangle any knots. Finish it off with a spritz of light-hold hairspray to set the ‘do. And if you want to nail the whole “cool girl” vibe, try one of these minimalist makeup ideas!
