Style Your Curtain Bangs: 4 Celebs Who Are Doing It Right

In need of fresh fringe? Try curtain bangs to update your look like these celebrities.

They’re soft, feminine, hip, and mysterious: curtain bangs are flattering on everybody, whatever your face shape. Brigitte Bardot first popularized this highly coveted style of fringe, making it a big trend in the 1960s. Curtain bangs work because they’re bangs that don’t look like bangs and instead serve as face-framing layers that create a slimming silhouette and are super easy to style.

Hair expert Lourd Ramos says, “Curtain bangs are also called veil bangs. Anne Hathaway’s hair in The Devil Wears Prada is a more symmetrical example. They’re popular because they have character and it’s a standalone style. You can wear it with frizzy hair, you can wear it with slick hair, even curly hair. You can match it with streetwear, or you wear it on the runway.” Here are some celebrities who are rocking the look:

Wear Them Curly Like Eiza Gonzales

Curtain bangs are versatile enough to be worn by all hair textures and face shapes. Eiza Gonzalez, who usually has straight, sleek hair, wears curly curtain bangs to match her perm in the film I Care a Lot. Hers are styled in chunky, springy sections that softly fall on the face. To keep your curly curtain bangs from getting frizzy, use a nourishing formula like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth KERA10 Shampoo. Get the benefits of a keratin treatment in one wash in this shampoo that tames flyaways and frizz, while detangling, softening, and moisturizing hair.

Go Volumized and Natural Like Sabrina Carpenter

Sabrina Carpenter’s signature curtain bangs are full and volumized.

Big hair, don’t care — that’s Sabrina Carpenter for you. Her retro-style curtain bangs are closer to that of Brigette Bardot’s style, which features lots of volume.

If you want to cut your curtain bangs DIY and achieve a look like Sabrina’s, Lourd Ramos suggests the following method: “Section hair in a small triangle and pull it downwards. Start cutting it from the tip of your nose, moving outwards to the left, and then again from the tip of the nose going to the right." This way, you can control the length of your bangs and make sure that you cut them evenly. Once you have your desired length, point-cut the tips of your bangs upwards to give it texture.

Style Them with an Up-Do Like Taylor Swift

Who says curtain bangs are exclusively for Gen-Z? You can have curtain bangs and style them like a proper lady such as Taylor Swift. In the photo, her symmetrical, wispy fringe is paired with a loose but elegant updo.

To get bangs that have just the right amount of bounce and volume, Lourd recommends using an anti-frizz spray like TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Boost Hold for an invisible hold with a natural finish. Spray 25-30 centimeters from the hair and blow-dry backward. “You can also set the bangs with a Velcro roller backward. It will give you a nice fringe,” says Lourd.

Work Them With a Half-Up Hair 'Do Like Britney Spears

Curtain bangs help soften a look. If you're gunning for that style anyway, amp it up by going ultra-feminine. A half-up, half-down style will emphasize your fringe and provide a delicate touch. Tie back the hair at the top of your head then sweep your curtain bangs on either side of your face (take your cue from your hair part). It'll add a casual, effortless grace to the hairstyle.

Britney Spears takes it a step further by adding flowers to your hair. That's optional, but you have to admit it's super cute.

Pair It With a Braid

Follow Camila Cabello's lead! For her turn as Cinderella on Amazon's live-action musical, her hair was tied in a long, voluminous braid while her curtain bangs were kept nice and natural. If you want to try this look, but your hair is a little on the straight side, you can add texturizing spray or product to give it some life.

This look is ideal for busy types who can't be bothered to spend a lot of time on their hair but still want to look put together.

Part Them Sleek Like Bella Hadid

Try Bella Hadid’s sleek, ‘90s style.

Throw it back to Victoria Beckham circa Posh Spice with this look from Bella Hadid. Styled sleek and super straight, her curtain bangs gently fall on the sides of her face, complementing her ‘90s-inspired up-do.

To get your bangs looking super sleek, try TRESemmé Ultimate Straight & Shine Conditioner with shea butter oil that cleanses and tames frizzy hair. To keep this look in place, use TRESemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray, which delivers the strongest all-day control with a water-free, fast-drying, and humidity-resistant formula. For a stronger hold, spray another layer after you’ve styled your hair in place.

When growing out your bangs, Lourd offers a clever hack: “Always style it wet and brushed away from your face. Use product to hold it in place. Basta wet-look lagi, hindi mo mapapansin humahaba na siya ulit.”

Itching to get curtain bangs? Go for it! It’s an easy style that can instantly update your look.
