Smiling is the universal sign of happiness, confidence, and friendliness, but flashing your pearly whites when dealing with pain from mouth ulcers can be challenging. These sores affect at least 20% of the population, and their dreaded appearance can make eating, drinking, speaking, grinning, and socializing uncomfortable. Therefore, you need to know the basics, including which singaw treatment to turn to for relief. Let's get started!

Mouth Sores: What Are They?

Accidentally biting your lip can cause mouth sores.

Singaw, also known as mouth sores, are painful lesions on the soft tissue of the mouth, gums, and tongue. Medically known as aphthous stomatitis, they appear as painful ulcers with a distinctive white or yellow center and a red outer ring.

What is the cause of singaw?

Most mouth sores are caused by injuries while others are related to health conditions. Here’s a quick rundown.

  • Common mouth sores: often result from accidents, friction, burns, irritation, and even infection.
  • Canker sores (a.k.a. aphthous ulcers): manifest in the mouth, cheeks, tongue, and interior parts of lips. Canker sores are attributed to auto-immune disorders or a compromised immune system due to diseases. Talk to a doctor to treat canker sores and underlying conditions.
  • Cold sores: referred to as fever blisters, this type of sore is caused by herpes simplex viruses. Unlike the previous two conditions, cold sores are contagious and will spread through skin contact on the mouth and genitals.

Sores typically go away on their own. But you can get relief and faster healing with some at-home singaw treatment options.

How to Treat Singaw

Brushing keeps your mouth free of germs.

The common mouth sore will disappear in 10-14 days. While sores aren’t serious, they are painful and uncomfortable. You can speed up the healing process with some simple singaw treatment methods.

Practice good oral hygiene.

Get rid of mouth sores faster with the right dental care routine. Opt for a soft-bristled toothbrush to reduce friction and swelling, and use closeup Red Hot Toothpaste. It has Antibacterial Zinc that rids the mouth of 99% bacteria, for all-day AMA-ZINC fresh breath. Its cooling formula can also give you temporary relief from painful mouth sores.

Watch what you eat.

Eating spicy, hot, sour, or crunchy food can cause pain in the infected area, so it’s best to skip the Shin Ramyun noodles until your mouth sore has run its course. Instead, consume soft food with more subtle flavors.

Try a saltwater mouth rinse.

While not a singaw treatment per se, gargling with warm water and salt is effective for soothing throat inflammations. Salt is an inexpensive antiseptic that rids the mouth of infection-causing bacteria. However, rinse your mouth with this solution sparingly, or you’ll end up with chapped lips.

Make a baking soda paste.

Baking soda is a versatile pantry staple that can disinfect a festering mouth sore since it helps restore pH balance and reduce inflammation. Simply create a paste by combining it with water. Apply the solution with a cotton swab on the sore after brushing. Be warned: this method is effective, but it will sting.

Apply essential oils.

Essential oils are widely used in aromatherapy and a variety of beauty products, but did you know certain oils can also be a singaw treatment? For example, peppermint and eucalyptus also have anti-inflammatory and astringent properties that help close the tissue around the lesion while providing a soothing effect. Don’t forget to dilute them in carrier oil (coconut is a safe bet as it also fights inflammation) before applying.

Avoid stressors.

A weak immune system or stress sets off canker sores. Make it a habit to eliminate stressors and boost your immunity by staying active. You could also try a new hobby or get a relaxing massage.

The average mouth sore clears up on its own without the need for singaw treatment. But if, for some reason, your ulcers are worsening, multiplying, bleeding, or becoming chronic, consult a doctor immediately. In the meantime, don’t neglect your oral hygiene – yes, even if it stings!
