Everyone gets itchy skin occasionally. Atopic dermatitis, a bug bite, an allergic reaction, a contagious skin disease, extremely dry skin, or an underlying health issue are some of the usual suspects.

Visit your doctor if you have an underlying condition that might be causing your skin concern or if the itching has become so severe. Otherwise, you can try these home remedies to improve your condition and get some immediate relief in the meantime.

Calm Your Dry, Itchy Skin

Extremely dry skin can be very itchy. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) suggests starting a self-care routine that is aimed at healing excessively dry skin, aside from going to your dermatologist to get proper treatment. Use a moisturizer that seals in moisture and apply it several times a day, in particular, within five minutes of taking a bath, after washing your hands, and whenever the skin feels dry or starts to itch.

Begin your skin repair treatments by using a deeply moisturizing product such as Vaseline Intensive Care Deep Restore Body Lotion, which is formulated for very dry skin. Pure oat extract and micro-droplets of Vaseline Jelly comprise this lotion, helping restore damaged skin from within. It also provides moisture immediately upon application and renews moisture for up to three times longer sans the greasy feeling.

Soothe Your Itchy Skin Condition

Avoid long, hot baths to prevent further itching, dryness, and inflammation.

Itchy skin conditions are common, and anyone can get them. These issues include eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, folliculitis, psoriasis, ringworm, and shingles. If you’re suffering from any of these conditions, consult your dermatologist for the best skin repair treatments.

Meanwhile, at home, bathe in lukewarm — not hot — water and limit your bath to five minutes. The AAD states that this prevents the skin from drying further and becoming irritated. Avoid temperature changes and maintain a cool environment because sweating can exacerbate your condition. Pat your skin dry with a towel to dry off. Do not rub your skin. Apply a lotion, such as Vaseline Healthy Bright Fresh and Fair Cooling UV Gel Lotion, which will keep your skin cool with menthol and nourished with 10 times more niacinamide.

Avoid Itchy Allergic Reactions

Skip perfumes and go for products with fragrances if you have sensitive skin that’s prone to irritation and itching.

Sensitive skin can easily develop skin allergies and irritations from various substances or materials, from nickel, plants, and pets, harsh chemicals in household cleaners, latex, and even skincare products that contain fragrances.

If you’re prone to allergies or have developed a rash or inflammation from an allergic reaction, the first thing to do is avoid touching, rubbing, or scratching the area. The next step is finding out what’s causing the rash by consulting with a doctor. Finally, adjust your skincare routine at home and make it more friendly towards sensitive skin.

To care for easily irritated skin, use Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash, which is formulated with NutriMoisture technology that nourishes the skin. This body wash for itchy skin is clinically tested, hypoallergenic, dermatologist approved, and fragrance-free, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Get relief for itchy skin by following the tips above and using gentle products that won’t cause further irritation.
