You Will Need

After coming home from a raucous, booze-filled evening of partying, your nightly skincare routine is probably the last thing on your mind. Who can blame you? Your bed looks super comfy, your feet are killing you, and the bathroom is too many steps away. But if you fall asleep with makeup caked on, you'll regret it when you roll out of bed the next day.

Keeping makeup on overnight, especially after partying, can clog your pores, dehydrate your complexion, and prevent your skin from restoring itself while you sleep. As a result, you wake up with your skin looking dull, irritated, with breakouts waiting to happen.

Bottom line: taking those few extra minutes to wash up and tend to your tired skin post-party will always be a good idea. Follow these face care tips for a cleansing routine that guarantees smooth, supple skin come morning.

Step 1: Start With an Oil-Based Makeup Remover

Want to wash away all the dirt, makeup, and oil sitting on your skin? The double cleansing method is the way to go. This South Korean skincare technique has a cult-like following for a reason: it works. Start with an oil-based makeup remover to dissolve and remove waterproof makeup, sunscreen, and other oil-based impurities. Add a splash of water to emulsify the balm until milky, then massage it all over.

If you're wearing heavy eye makeup, you can dispense a small amount of the balm into a washable face towel and gently swipe the area. Unlike makeup wipes, this nourishing balm won't strip your skin of moisture or leave it feeling raw from rubbing and tugging. It applies smoothly, feels silky, and rinses off easily. Plus, it smells like roses!

Step 2: Follow Up With a Water-Based Cleanser

As its name suggests, double cleansing is a two-part process. The next step is to use a water-based cleanser to take care of remaining residue, like sweat or stubborn makeup. You'll know you're working with a water-based cleanser if the first ingredient listed on the packaging is – you guessed it – H20. Foams, gels, and creams are usually in this category. Go for a mild, low-pH formula so your skin doesn't feel dry or tight after two thorough washes.

Step 3: Revive Skin With a Gentle Exfoliator

Now that your skin is feeling fresh again, it's time to go in with an exfoliator to jumpstart the skin rejuvenation process. During sleep, your body naturally goes through repair, a.k.a. when your skin cells restore themselves. By exfoliating before bed, you slough off the buildup of dead skin cells on the surface, which promotes cell turnover. Translation: you wake up glowing despite your wild night out.

Just don't overdo it! Physical exfoliators, like facial scrubs, might be too abrasive for stressed or tired skin. Instead, use POND'S Age Miracle Ultimate Youth Day Serum. It has hexyl-retinol that helps stimulate cellular turn over and brighten the skin.

Step 4: Rehydrate and Soothe With Serums

After exfoliating, your skin becomes an ultra-absorbent canvas – now's your chance to pack it full of concentrated hydration. Go for formulas with moisture-boosting actives like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and niacinamide. Do you usually wake up with a puffy face after drinking, dancing, and sleeping late? Use a chilled facial roller to apply your products. Besides helping you relax, a facial massage also helps ease bloating and puffiness.

Step 5: Combat Dryness With Moisturizer

Alcohol, sugar-sweetened drinks, and salty bar chow are all incredibly dehydrating, which spells trouble for the skin. So, drink a tall glass of water to quench your thirst, then give your skin the same treatment by moisturizing. Moisturizer also creates a protective barrier, so you don't dry out overnight. On top of that, it helps lock your serums in place, so they can work their magic while you catch those much-needed zzz's.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of washing all your makeup off after a night of partying. You might be tempted to skip your night regimen, but stay strong! Give your skin some TLC before you snooze, and you'll thank yourself in the A.M.
