Rosy cheeks are associated with health. Cambridge Dictionary defines the idiom “in the pink” as a formal, old English way of saying “in very good health.” Although it’s not to be taken literally, we’ve somehow come to associate a pinkish blush with health and vitality. While rosy cheeks can also be an extension of facial redness, which can be caused by skin rashes, dryness, rosacea, or an allergic reaction, often, rosy cheeks are desirable for many, especially when complemented with suppleness and an overall glow.

Why Are We Attracted to Rosy Cheeks?

Rosy cheeks are a sign of good health.

Rosy cheeks occur when blood vessels widen near the outer layer of skin. Research funded by Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and Unilever Research states that humans use perceived health to measure attractiveness. People with rosy complexions are perceived to be healthier and, therefore, more attractive. Though Scotland was the setting for this study, a naturally healthy, rosy complexion can be achieved by anyone, regardless of skin color. The amount of melanin in the skin may mask a natural blush, but this doesn’t mean morenas can’t have a rosy glow.

Following these habits and practices can help you achieve a rosier complexion.

Rosy cheeks can be a physical manifestation of shyness or embarrassment. It can also be a characteristic of healthy skin. Skin that’s fresh, healthy, and free of dullness looks naturally radiant and rosy. Here’s how you can get naturally rosy cheeks and healthy skin overall.

Eat foods that make the skin glow.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, eating foods that are rich in antioxidants such as Vitamins C and E can reduce damage in skin cells that contribute to dull skin and premature aging. Eating fruits and vegetables, many of which are rich in Vitamins B and A, also help maintain and repair skin tissue. If you are prone to acne, avoid carbohydrate-rich foods to prevent flare-ups. Spicy foods and alcohol can make your cheeks rosy, but not in a good way since these are common rosacea triggers.

Strengthen the skin barrier.

The skin barrier is the outermost layer of the epidermis, which in turn is the outermost layer of the skin. Instead of exfoliating your skin too often to get a rosy glow, try strengthening the skin barrier. A weak skin barrier can lead to irritation and inflammation — and that will get in the way of your rosy glow. A strong skin barrier protects your skin against sun damage, bacteria, and free radicals so that your skin stays and looks healthy.

Use a serum that hydrates and protects the skin like POND'S Bright Miracle Ultimate Clarity Day Serum, which renews and strengthens the skin barrier while you sleep and fades dark spots.

Boost your glow with a mask.

Like most skincare, applying a mask just for a day won’t really have a long-lasting effect. Boost your glow by using a hydrating mask — whether it’s a gel or sheet mask — daily and reap the compounded benefits.

Improve blood circulation with exercise.

Regular aerobic exercise increases blood flow to the face, nourishing the skin cells. Good circulation is key to giving our cells the nutrients they need and ridding them of waste. Aerobic exercise increases the heart rate and allows blood to flow faster, improving your circulation. Exercise is also known to decrease stress, so any skin condition that worsens with stress sees improvement.

Make sure to wash your face after exercising to remove sweat, dirt, and bacteria. Cleanse with POND'S Bright Miracle Ultimate Acne Control Facial Foam, which transforms your complexion to fair, glowing skin by deeply cleaning the pores and removing old skin that causes dullness.

Get rosy cheeks and an overall healthy complexion by practicing the habits above and using brightening products that smoothen, moisturize, and even out your complexion.
