Our skin can only stand so much sun exposure and sweating, this is why a lot of skin problems manifest and persist in hot weather. Ever wonder why your skin feels more irritated and itchier when you’re constantly sweating, or exposed to the sun a lot? Here are just some of the skin problems that can arise and how you can address them.

Be Prepared to Handle Acne Breakouts

You can prevent breakouts by using products with effective acne-fighting ingredients.

Acne results when sebum and dead skin cells clog pores.. Throw in some bacteria and sweat to the mix, and you have a recipe for a breakout. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, blotting sweat instead of wiping it can prevent irritation. Using non-comedogenic, oil-free products on breakout-prone areas such as the face, chest, and back can help prevent acne. A cleanser like POND'S Bright Miracle Ultimate Acne Control Facial Foam fights 99% of acne-causing bacteria. It also keeps breakouts at bay with BHA and glycerin.

You’ll Find Yourself in a Prickly Situation

Prickly heat rash, also known as bungang araw, occurs when sweat is trapped inside the sweat glands. When the bumps burst and sweat is finally released, it causes a prickly sensation on the skin. If keeping yourself from sweating is not an option, you can lessen your risk of getting prickly heat by wearing loose-fitting cotton clothes and keeping cool with a fan or air-conditioner. You can also shower with a bacteria-fighting soap like Lifebuoy Antibacterial Body Wash Total 10, which refreshes skin while fighting germs and viruses.

Your Hair Follicles Could Be Affected

Folliculitis is an acne-like breakout that results from an infection in damaged hair follicles. It’s more common in hot weather when bacteria from sweat can easily penetrate follicles. You can damage your hair follicles from scratching or rubbing your skin. Other causes include wearing tight clothing, chafing from skin-to-skin contact, and shaving. Folliculitis can sometimes look like acne but can be itchy or even painful. Visit your dermatologist for proper medication, such as antibiotics.

You Might Get Sunburn

Always keep your skin protected with SPF

You might think it’s nice to get some color on your skin, but based on the AAD, a tan is a sign that the skin has been injured. As sun damage builds on your skin, you become at risk for premature skin aging and even skin cancer. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen like Vaseline Healthy Bright SPF24 PA++ Sun + Pollution Protection Brightening Defense Lotion. Apply a generous amount (three to four pumps) all over your body. Then, reapply every two hours whether outdoors or indoors, as needed throughout the day. This Vaseline lotion even offers pollution protection.

With the right products and proper care, you can still have clear skin even in hot weather.
