It's normal for underarms to have some texture – from the folds of your skin to bumps. They are prone to razor burn and ingrown hair from constant hair removal, as well as friction from clothes and movement. Armpit pimples can form when sweat glands are clogged with oil, sweat, and bacteria. These tend to go away on their own and are preventable. Here are ways you can steer clear of them.

Wash Your Armpits Well

Keeping your underarms clean is the number one step in keeping your ’pits bump-free.

The first rule of thumb in preventing armpit pimples is to ensure your underarms are clean. Use mild soap and water to wash the area. Armpit skin is thinner, so be gentle. Thoroughly lather up and gently stroke – as if you are washing a baby’s bum. Then, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Hot or cold temperatures may scald your skin, trigger irritation, or clog your pores. You can also use a sponge.

Exfoliate Lightly

Use gentle motions when you exfoliate.

Aside from dirt, dead skin cells may accumulate in your underarm area. Regular cleansing may not be enough to remove them, so exfoliate your armpits about twice a week. Again, be gentle. Use a mild cleanser and a loofah or a soft towel to scrub your underarms lightly.

Use a Mild Deodorant

It’s important to use the right deodorant.

According to the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, cosmetic allergies from deodorants are common. A survey in the UK found that 36.8% of people will have an adverse reaction to a deodorant. A clean deodorant is best for everyday use. Try Dove 0% Aluminum Deodorant Aerosol, which has no aluminum salts or alcohol. It also has 1/4 moisturizing cream to ward away friction-caused bumps.

Cleanse After Sweating

Did you come from a workout? After sweating a lot, the chemicals from the perspiration in your underarms may clog your pores, spawning a breeding ground for armpit pimples. Shower after exercise or play or if the weather is too warm. Pay attention to extra-sweaty areas, such as your armpits, soles, and groin.

If no shower or bathroom is available, clean up with wipes or pat your armpits dry with a tissue. Add this to your beauty routine on sunny days.

Wear Loose Clothing

Wearing loose clothing is a must to keep underarm pimples from popping up

Let your underarms breathe. If you're extra conscious of your underarm texture, you may need to minimize tight clothing in your wardrobe. The friction between your clothes and skin can cause armpit zits and darkening. Wear loose shirts or sleeveless tops. The bonus is that these also work well with the Philippine weather.

Use a Razor Made for Sensitive Skin

A razor for sensitive skin is always a good idea to prevent underarm pimples.

Even if your skin is not sensitive, it’s best to use a razor made for sensitive skin. It comes with features that will prevent – if not downright eliminate – razor burn. Besides triggering armpit pimples, razor burn can also cause tenderness, itchiness, and a burning sensation.

Your underarms can be one of the most appealing parts of your body if you practice proper hygiene. With these handy tips, you can take good care of your kilikili and keep armpit pimples at bay.
