Step 1: Gently wash hair with shampoo and rinse.

Like every other treatment, make sure to start on a clean slate by washing your hair thoroughly. Skip the conditioner for this round since it may affect the effect of the rice water.

Step 2: Towel-dry hair.

Pat your hair damp. Your hair must still be moist enough for the rice water to spread easily, but it shouldn’t be soaking wet.

Step 3: Spray rice water onto your hair.

Grab your rice water and start spraying your hair. Begin from the scalp until the root. Once you think you’ve sprayed enough, massage your scalp to help spread the rice water further.

Step 4: Leave it on for 20 minutes.

You can leave it on as is or use a shower cap. Remember to cap the treatment at 20 minutes. Any more than that might cause damage. Hit two birds with one stone and put on a face mask while you’re waiting.

Step 5: Rinse hair with cool water and style.

A tip: Don’t throw out your soaked rice! A bonus in this DIY self-care routine? You can get a good meal out of it. Your soaked rice saves you precious minutes of prep time.
